  2. Now that the govt shutdown is over, our stress levels are much lighter. I just hope I can get all my transplanting done before it gets too cold.

  3. I love your asters, so beautiful. Blue geranium... I have never seen before. So wonderful

    1. Thank you! They aren't tropical flowers so I don't think they would do well in your climate, unfortunately.

  4. Pierwsze kwiatki też są i w moim ogródku. Zawilce również, ale nie białe. Życzę wykonania jesiennych prac w ogródku, przed nadejściem zimna. Pozdrawiam.
The first flowers are also and in my garden. Anemones also, but not white. I wish the performance of autumn work in the garden, before the cold. Yours.

    1. I do love the last beautiful show of flowers before they all go dormant in winter. I've added pink anemones to my shade garden redesign.

  5. The 'Sheffield Pink' is beautiful and so is the colour of the geraniums. I love my Japanese anemones here, at this time of year, for flowering when almost everything else has finished.

    1. I love any flower that is either bright blue or peachy apricot pink so both of these are winners for me.

  6. The shade garden redesign is coming along just fine.....love those white anemones and the bright blue sky.
Thank goodness the government shutdown is over....for now.
Keep on singing and dancing my friend, it keeps the stress at bay.

    1. Fortunately, the shut down only furloughed my husband for 4 days instead of the full 2 weeks and we have back pay coming. I'm excited about the redesign. I have another one in progress in the sunny side of my garden, too. :o)

  7. Those are all great things to celebrate, and the gardener must take credit for it all (well, the blue sky is a gift). I am always happy to see the apricot colors of Sheffield pink open up. I have them all around the gravel garden, such a pretty fall touch. And it's good to hear your Honorine Joubert is so well behaved. You're doing something right!

    1. The spot I have my Japanese anemones in is too dry for them to go crazy but just moist enough to keep them happy with some additional water in the summer. I really love them. They just make me happy as do the mums and geraniums. But I love a bright blue sky the best of all.

  8. Very pretty colors as fall descends. I will be curious to see what you plant in the shade garden. My aspen in the front circle are beginning to get large enough to create a shade canopy, so show us what you come up with. Beautiful blue sky.

    1. In the next few days I'll have a post up about the shade garden redesign. It will show/list the plants I used as well as the various light/moisture levels I'm working with. You're in a very different climate than I am so I hope the plants will work for you, too.

  9. Just as wonderful as your blooms is the statement "almost done with the redesign"! Now, that is something to celebrate! I've started redesigning one area (well, maybe I should say I'm still in the middle of designing it), and for some reason it seems to be the design that just won't stop - I can't seem to make it look "right". And I love your anemones! I need to add some of these to my garden. They are just so lovely, and autumn is a nice time to have new blooms.

    1. I could never be a landscape designer because my designs are so fluid. I order plants and then worry that I have too many/too few. I sometimes change my mind about where everything should go once I buy the plants, too. I'm waiting on two more plant orders and then I can mulch and be done. I had too many plants that were short and had to scramble to find some taller perennials for the middle.

  10. Rozanne is also one of my favourites, so long blooming, marvelous ! Nice shadegarden also !

    1. If we let all the bullshit in life bog us down, we'd never get out of bed. Ya gotta see the good in every day. :o) Right now I'm drinking a cup of tea, listening to Maroon 5, and blogging. Life is good!

  13. I need to get some of those Sheffield Pink mums. How do they behave in part sun?

    1. They love part sun and are tougher than nails. Laurrie of My Weeds Are Very Sorry gardens in CT and has them, too.

  15. Along with Rozanne I have Brookside and apart from the timing of blooms the flowers look the same to me. They are great plants to have in the garden. That's a lovely blue sky you have there!

  16. The Geranium Rozanne is an excellent Geranium, it flowers on and on uptil now. I love this one. Your 'Sheffield Pink'mums look good too. The 'Honorine Jobert' Anemones are great, in my garden they started slowly but over the years they are covering large patches.

    1. My Japanese anemones were slow starters, too, because I needed to improve the soil. But after working on that area and adding a lot of compost, they're pretty happy.

  17. Wow, you make even the notoriously not blooming geranium look like something I must have. I used to have lots of them, but they never performed for me...but now they are back on my list.

    1. Do Rozanne geraniums refuse to bloom for you? I've never heard of that. Mine get partial shade and slightly moist, rich soil and are blooming fools. Try them again. :o)

  18. Geraniums are such good doers aren't they mine is still flowering too - nice to see so much colour still in your garden.

  19. I've been hesitant to add hardy geraniums since most of them poop out in the heat here, but I've heard Rozanne is not like that. Yours look great. Let me guess - part shade, right? If you want to see some pathetic-looking plants (and let's face it, who doesn't?), come to a Plant Delights summer open house and check out the hardy geraniums in full sun. They look like they need life support.

    1. Full sun in the south? D'uh!!! Mine get partial filtered shade from noon on and moistish, rich soil. The only geraniums I have in full sun are geranium striatum, which are at the edge of my rain garden so they stay moist. I'm surprised PDN would do something so dumb.

  20. You can depend on Rozanne.. when others stumble and fall she blooms doggedly onwards. Is there a flower in the garden which blooms for longer ? My foxglove 'Illumination' is a close second as it has bloomed non stop from June til now...

    1. The only plant I have that blooms longer is my knautia, which blooms for about 9 mos. I also have Johnson's Blue geraniums, but they only bloom in the spring. Wimps!

  21. Everything looks lovely. My garden is a pit. Full time teaching has kept me out of the garden and the kitchen and the laundry room and the grocery store and....How DO you teach and maintain your beauties? Just another amazing feature in the masterpiece of you. :)

  22. Great idea for a post, maybe it should be a post (T'ings That Are Right Tuesdays?). I love blue hardy geraniums, but for some reason Rozanne has not done well for me. I have better luck with Tschelda and Johnson's Blue.

  24. Wow, I LOVE those Pink Sheffield mums, now I have to go and find them in my area (or order some.) Do yours always seem to clump and naturalize like that? Also here's hoping I bought the Honorine Jobert anemone when I went berserk and planted a whole bunch of them in my shade beds. We'll see soon enough if they are "well-behaved." Susie

    1. 'Honorine Jobert' will spread if its happy but I've never heard it described as aggressive. The mums are easy clumpers that are very natural in growth and appearance. I don't even pinch them. I just do nothing with them and they are amazing! They do like to be well drained.

  27. I'm glad to see blue skies, even if just in pictures - we've been socked in with fog every morning until mid-afternoon. Your garden looks great. Geranium 'Rozanne' and white Japanese Anemone are 2 of my favorite plants. My own G. 'Rozanne' has been slow to establish here and, although my white anemones flower well, the foliage was quickly withered by the combination of early fall heat and our nasty Santa Ana winds.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I lived at Camp Pendleton as a kid and remember the Santa Ana's well. Such miserable winds. They would pick up the sand off the beach and make going outside difficult. It was like being scrubbed by sand paper. I can only imagine what they would do to a garden.

  28. Loved your 'Rozanne', I have 'Ann Folkard' and 'Brookside' in part shade, but they are both in their first year and need some more time to get established – I hope, if not they simply don’t like my garden that much….Your mums are adorable, mine is getting into flower right now too. Your shade garden looks great, looking forward to photos of it next spring and summer :-)

    1. I'm excited about the shade garden and what it has the potential to look like. I have a few other geraniums I can't remember the names of but none of them are Ann Folkard or Brookside. I imagine geraniums would do well in your climate.

  29. Love the Rozanne geraniums and Sheffield pink mums. I have never grown either, but have thought about growing Rozanne. I like Japanese anemones and have some pink ones. I have never had a problem with them being invasive.

  31. I have Rozanne that I moved from the backyard to the front garden....promptly eaten by most likely a rabbit. :( After a few sprayings of Liquid Fence it is coming back....slowly. Hoping next year to have a great showing. Love reading your posts.
