Everything That's Right: After the Storm

1. My family and I are safe and sound. Hurricane Sandy has left my garden very well watered. Thanks a million for all your support. :o)

2. None of the trees that fell landed on my house or property and we never lost power.

3. We spent part of yesterday watching the movie Grease so we could sing about Sandy.

4. Sweet Sandy spent the day with us while my garden soaked up the rain.

5. But by early evening, Bad Sandy had arrived!

6. Carrot cake made everything better.

7. So did watching movies with two teenage girls in the hammock that had been moved into the basement from the backyard.

8. The dogs slept through everything.

    1. Thanks! The storm shifted and the DC area missed the worst of it.

    1. Thanks! We were prepared for the worst and had reached the point that we felt like we were waiting for disaster to strike. On Sunday night we went to the movies at an almost empty theater and out for dinner. We saw Argo. It was amazing! Go Canada!

  4. Glad you have made it thru storm hunkered down and watching movies. Dogs look like they were not concerned at all. Stay safe.

    1. What's funny is that of our four dogs, three are terrified of storms. But they could have cared less about Sandy. They even went out side to pee in strong winds that blew their ears back like cartoon characters. I think it was the lack of thunder that helped them get through it. :o)

  5. So good to hear you not only survived, but had some fun times through it all. We had houseguests who had come up from Kentucky for his Mom's funeral over the weekend and were staying with us, then could not fly back home. So we have had extra days to visit, lots to eat, and company through it all. They are at the airport now, rebooking!

    1. I expected there to be some damage when I woke up this morning because the wind was so strong but everything was fine. I'm so glad!

  10. Good to know your fine... I miss having movie marathons with my girls...
Have you been left with a lot of clean up?

    1. No clean up at all! None of our trees fell and everything looks normal. It's still raining, though, and the garden/yard is saturated. My rain garden has standing water but that's what it's there for. :o)

    1. It feels so good to know that bloggers from around the world check on each other during natural disasters. :o) I am really touched. I have a different electrical company than my friends without power and we rarely lose service. But my heart goes out to the people of NYC. It's a wet mess.

  12. Tammy, I'm so happy that you and family are all okay. I breathed a sigh of relief when the storm turned in a different direction.
Many of my east coast friends are okay, and some are without power with lots of cleanup, but all safe and sound, thank God.
Funny how I laugh at Brownie with his ears all blown back from the wind as well....I know exactly the look of the cartoon characters....you described it well.
Did you save me a slice of that carrot cake??

    1. A young John Travolta is pure eye candy, which is my favorite sweet of all. :o) I saw the movie for the first time when it came out in 1979. I was 10 and thought it was the coolest movie on the planet. It's still a fun way to pass 2 hours. If you haven't seen it, give it a try. You just might love it. :o)

  14. Oh yeah! Carrot cake would help in any situation. So glad you're OK. What a great way to spend the day--safe, dry, and warm. And entertained by a classic!

    1. When I saw these graphics on Google images, I knew they'd be perfect. Sandy is just such a sweet name for a hurricane. I think they should have names like Hurricane Xena or Igor.

  19. Reading your post nearly caused my morning coffee to spurt out of my nose! So funny, the Sandy progression; the cozy dogs, adorable. It is a universal truth that carrot cake solves any problem that might arise (that can't be fixed with duct tape or WD 40.) Glad you're safe and reasonably sane.

    1. That is the best compliment! If the astronauts on Apollo 13 had been given a carrot cake, they might not have needed duct tape. :o)

  20. Tammy, so glad to hear you and your family got through the storm on Grease and carrot cake, I can't think of much a carrot cake won't fix - and over here we have 'No More Nails' (a glue) for everything else! The news are filled with reports every hour from the US, we have had a lot of freak weather this year but nothing like you have had now. I saw Grease in 1979 too, and at least 5 times since then I think. Great movie!

  22. Yes, I was worried about you up there. I wonder if the name Sandy will be retired since she was such a bad girl and caused so much damage/and loss of life. Our last Hurricane was Ike and he knocked out power for two weeks along with billions of dollars in damage. There will never be another Ike.
Welcome to the notorious Hurricane Club.

    1. I remember how much water you had in your garden after Ike. :( Naming hurricanes definitely adds to their emotional impact. I wish Sandy had stayed innocent and just brought a rainstorm.
