Love Easy

It's late and I should be in bed. But my mind is humming, words and phrases popping through the sleepy fog like prairie dogs in the Dakota sun. This year hasn't ended as I'd hoped and I wonder and worry about the future. I closed my classroom door each day imagining we were safe. I tell myself quietly to stop, to breathe, to seek peace. I force myself into mindless, repetitive dreams and fall asleep digging holes and wedding the garden.

Regardless of what the new year brings, some things never change. I will laugh often and love easy and will continue to believe, even when I shouldn't, that the world is a beautiful place.

  1. School shootings had me wondering what it must be like to be in a school each day. You give me a sense of it. I hope your attitude continues to stay positive.

  2. Those school shootings are something mindless madness. We've had some shootings here in Finland as well. It makes you wonder many things. As a teacher I understand your feelings. Let's hope the next year will be better and some way to stop those shootings will be found.

I don't remember if I've told you that Satu's blog is deleted and it's called My life now and has a new address: http://myusualdailylife.blogspot.com

  3. Why should you not believe the world is a beautiful place, Tammy? I think our psyches need to feel good. Yes, bad things happen but we can't allow the deeds of a mental or personality disordered individual to steal our joy and hope. The world IS a beautiful place and beautiful people live on it. Our hearts will be broken, but they heal. The world is a beautiful place.

    1. I agree! If all the good things that happen were given as much media coverage as all the rotten stuff, then we wouldn't even have to consider the good vs evil rating of the world around us. Another reason I refuse to watch the news.

  4. If it weren't for people like yourself then those monsters win! The courage of those school teachers and kids has bought it home to the globe just how vulnerable we all are and how important it is that we validate each other and teach our children that there is hope among the atrocities of this world.

    1. I think being a teacher makes it harder to reconcile. But life goes on. It always does and since life is a choice, I choose happy.

  5. I believe it is the range, from dark to light, that makes the light so breathtaking.

Keep safe, and watch for the seed catalogs in the mail.

  6. This was a most unfortunate event and I can imagine it must be very difficult working with children every day and knowing how easily it could have been closer to home. A good reminder to be grateful for what we have and celebrate this season with those we love. Best wishes to you in the coming year. ~M

    1. When I lock my classroom door they look at me with such trust and expectation it's humbling. But they feel safe and are ready to learn and that's what I focus on. :o)
