Four months ago
it was too cold and snowy.
Clematis 'Baltyk'
Three weeks ago
it was too wet and rainy.
Two days ago
to mark the location of the soaker hoses.
it was only 46 F at night
so I closed the windows
to keep from freezing.
in a cheap bucket.
Today it is miserable hot
and my soaker hoses
will be running all day.
But that's life.
It's messy, unpredictable, and often ridiculous
but still absolutely beautiful.
And a floriferous life it is.

ReplyDeleteI've been trying to get rid of mine for years since it needs more sun and suffocates everything in its path but it's determined to grow so I've given up trying to stop it. We've made peace. It gets morning sun and bright afternoon shade in dry, well drained soil. When it gets too rowdy, I just pull off the stems to keep it in line.
DeleteJust beautiful - sometimes plants are more resilient than we are in the face of all this wacky weather :) And love the "cheap" bucket - I'd snap that up in a second if I saw it in a store.

DeleteYour garden seems to take the changes in stride, a sure sign that you should too. We've been socked in with June gloom every morning and, occasionally, like today, until late afternoon. But I love our marine layer because it keeps the heat at arm's length for yet another day. We actually got 0.02 inches of rain this morning - hey, it's something!

ReplyDeleteThe dahlias is from seed called 'Fireworks' and it's well named since it's already about 2 ft tall and is blooming before several of the others. I wish it was a unique hybrid, but it's one of the plants I started from seed this winter.
DeleteEverything looks lush and beautiful but 'Jude the Obscure' rose is absolutely gorgeous. Lovely color. :-)

DeleteYour garden is absolutely stunning! 'Baltyk' is phenomenal. We have to go back to DC and see your garden in June! Yesterday was 92 and working in the garden my shirt was soaked with sweat. Today is 67, and tomorrow is supposed to be 90 again. So it goes.

The change in our weather is like night and day ... that is why we are so CRAZY as gardeners .. the extremes make us that way.. hum ? ... well some of us are leaning towards crazy more than others even without that tipping point ... just say'in ... LOL

DeleteOn the other side of the world our Winter weather has been changeable to say the least. Miserable and cold interchanged with windy and with warm and sunny. At least it given us gardeners something to talk about.

ReplyDeleteLOL!!! Here's the secret - rich, moistish, slightly acidic soil, AM sun, bright PM shade. I think that's it. Maybe they just prefer being called cle-MAT-tis instead of CLEM-uh-tis. ;o) I'll try to work my magic when I'm there!

DeleteSorry you have had some weather challenges but your garden is just gorgeous and looks so lush and full of wonderful blooms. I am really envious of that amazing Clematis Baltyk. I will have to investigate that one as the flowers are stunning. Clematis can be a bit of a challenge here! Hope the weather normalizes for you...But your garden doesn't seem to mind one bit whatever the weather!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kate! Everything about the weather is a challenge these days. It's the new 'normal'. I bought Baltyk from Brushwood years ago but don't think they sell it anymore. I love the way the petal curve backwards.
DeleteSo true! It is insanely hot here. Even the wind is hot! The only time we can take the dogs to the park is at dusk. Hopefully tomorrow will be a bit cooler. I have some clearance tomatoes to plant.
