I've had a recent epiphany that I've been going about my life all wrong. Instead of aspiring to noble causes such as only growing plants that support wildlife, I've realized what I really need to do is just lower my standards. No longer will I seek out native plants or cultivars proven to support a host of bees or butterflies. I don't care what the Latin names are or how to pronounce them. I have a new method to my madness: All plants must sound interesting when yelled across the fence to my neighbors while talking like a pirate.
So many possibilities....
Gar!! Where's me garden knife? There's eyeballs everywhere!
Yo ho ho, officer! I swear I'm just talking about gardening...
LOL! Let us know how it works out!
ReplyDeleteMy neighbors would laugh if I did it!! They're very cool, funny people.
DeleteMy first thought was: where did she get that outfit?! (Complete with treasure chest yet!) My second thought, based on the "come hither" look in the first photo, was: who does she have behind the camera?!
ReplyDeleteThe outfit shows up in the blog once a year, starting with Jan 1, 2015. It's just for fun and silliness. It never occurred to me I had a 'come hither' look on my face! I thought it was my 'I'm seriously contemplating which seeds to grow by staring off into the distance' look. My 20 yr old daughter took the pic and is convinced she's the only person who's mom has a pirate costume. She may be right....
DeleteInteresting approach! (What, no parrot?) Is this your official bloggers' fling greeting outfit?
ReplyDeleteI have a parrot but it's really hard to attach. I also have a hat but it's too small and I forgot the eye patch. Arrrgh! I'm bummed about missin' me eye patch!
DeleteTammy, what a great idea! I look forward to seeing your revised plant list!
ReplyDeleteWhen I get it done, I'll let you know. ;o)
DeleteHI-larious! Nothing starts my day better than a really good laugh....thanks Tammy :)
ReplyDeleteA smile is the whole point behind this silly post!
DeleteHahaha:) I suspect a little too much New Year's Eve wine was involved in this decision:)
ReplyDeleteNot at all, which is the scary part. This has been in the works for quite a while!
DeleteShiver me timbers!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I was cold!!
DeleteTammy girl I see you have.... LOST YOUR DAMN MIND GIRL !!!! hahahaha .. but what a way to go ... so the under pinning of this post is to buy plants that you totally love and who cares if they are buxom beauties for insects or not ! LOL
ReplyDeletePeter is right about the lack of a parrot .. but I really wanted to see the eye patch and captains hat ! haha
This was a huge giggle for me which I sorely needed ... thank you !
Joy : )
Sanity is overrated! I forgot the eye patch. Sadness and despair.... I guess that means I'll have to wear it again so I can wear the eye patch, too!
DeleteI love the sparkle in your eyes. Fun, fun, fun.
ReplyDeleteThen maybe it's a good thing I forgot the eye patch!
DeleteGardening AND cosplay. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteLife's too short not to have fun!
DeleteShould get the neighbors out into their gardens more to see what you're up to.
ReplyDeleteThey're used to me by now and don't even ask why I'm dressed up like a pirate. :o)
DeleteYo-ho-ho and a bottle of something fun.... Glad to see you out enjoying your garden... not quite as usual. :-) -Beth
ReplyDelete'Not quite as usual' is my favorite way to do most things. ;o)
DeleteUh oh! Better call Saul! Cool treasure chest.
ReplyDeleteThe chest was my husband's idea and is part of household decor. But I think he just wanted to walk around talking about my 'treasure chest' since the jokes began immediately. ;o)
DeleteNormally when I'm in the garden, it's sweaty t-shirt, shorts, grimy shoes and wonky hat time. You've raise the standards, m'lady, with your off-the-shoulder-frilly thing. As for the pirate-speak: ARHHG--still celebrating the new year, lassy!
ReplyDeleteMe, too! But every now and then a gal has to dress up. ;o)
DeleteInteresting!
ReplyDeleteI'll take that as a compliment. :o)
DeleteIs there no moral fiber in this country? Not sure how they would sound in pirate lingo, but don't forget these hostas: Striptease, Erotica, Gypsy Rose, Double D Cup, Derriere, Kiwi Full Monty, and my favorite, Little Stiffy.
ReplyDeleteI had a good laugh over Little Stiffy. I'm sure it's tag probably said 'Super Jumbo' but we all know the truth....
DeleteOh Tammy you do crack me up....I'm so glad you haven't changed for the new year.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year my dear!!!
I'm as goofy as ever, Virginia. :o)
Deletethanks for the laughs. we also refer to the naked ladies in my garden, so to speak, as dancing goils and girly-girls. happy new gardening year. --suz in ohio
ReplyDeleteHello Suz in Ohio! Those are nicknames that need to be yelled across the yard as loudly as possible. :o)
DeletePlease don' t give up on the Latin. 'White Stemmed Bramble' is not nearly such fun in English as it is in Latin.
ReplyDeleteI love the pirate costume but it is a tad impractical for gardening.
Latin is too beautiful to abandon. :o) I don't think I'll be doing too much gardening in this outfit! There'd be too "pirate booty" on display! ;o)
DeleteWhy oh why can't you be my neighbour! Brilliant...laughing away here, and oh my, that is one mighty fine pirate rig up!xxx
ReplyDeleteI wish I was your neighbor! We'd have loads of fun!
DeleteSilly and fun - that's starting of the new year off right~ ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm very willing to laugh at myself. :o)
DeleteBrilliant! I'm all for lowering standards, and even more so, slowing down. Here's to good fun in the new year, and time to enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteSlowing down is such a wonderful thing, especially if it involves loads of laughter. :o)
DeleteThis post brought a smile today. I love your philosophy and humour. Wishing you a very Happy New Year
ReplyDeleteHelen xx
Hooray! Happy New Year to you, too, Helen! :o)
DeleteI laughed Tammy! It's pity that these plants have no common names such interesting in Russian as in English. (Lily-tree and swan plant)
ReplyDeleteA plant that grows swans would be an interesting addition to the garden!
DeleteThat has to be the most original approach to plant selection that I have heard of. I see that your treasure trove seems full but perhaps you still have room for Kiss-Me-Over-the-Garden-Gate, a must I think. However you can forget about "love lies bleeding".
ReplyDeleteI do love the idea of kisses over the garden gate! It's much less tragic than 'Love Lies Bleeding'!
DeleteOMG, my afternoon tea was transported through my nostrils! And there is no way you can look innocent in that get-up, matey... This is my favorite post EVER.
ReplyDeleteBwahaha! Too funny! Boy, your neighbors must love watching the shenanigans that go on your garden...
ReplyDeleteI do think I keep them entertained. :o)
DeleteHi Tammy, is that your usual gardening outfit? I won't be shouting plant names across the fence - rather hedge - the neighbours have young and impressionable kids, you know. My philosophy on plants is, if it makes you go, "ooh, aaah, how lovely" when you see it in the catalogue or at the garden centre, it doesn't cost the earth and it might have reasonable chance of living (I make an exception for Clematis on this one), then buy it and find somewhere in the garden to put it in. Gardening can be difficult enough without putting restrictions such as finding gluten-free perennials or annuals with no nuts!
ReplyDeleteToo funny! My usual gardening outfit includes loose shorts, a baggy shirt, and a giant hat. This is just for special occasions. :o)
DeleteWhat fun, if I did that I might be hauled off in a ship to distant lands! Sarah x
ReplyDeleteMy daughter thinks I'm nuts, my husband thought it was hysterical and my son was just confused. Perfect combo! ;o)
DeleteWhat a hoot! You have more courage than I. There is so much treasure in the plant world waiting to be discovered.
ReplyDeleteLife's too short not to have fun! :o)
DeleteWhat fun, I love your style, and can't wait for the next chapter.
ReplyDeleteThanks! :o)
DeleteHonestly, you are the best!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Life's too short not to have fun!!
DeleteNow that I would love to see....especially those hairy balls!
ReplyDeleteI'm quite tempted to grow them just so I can yell their name.... :o)
Deletehow funny, now that is a possibility for a specialized plant collection. You look very glam, Tammy, as would be expected from a lady pirate.
ReplyDeleteVery specialized, indeed! ;o)
DeleteEnjoyed catching up with your blog again! Have been bogged down with family issues since my 85-year old mother fell and broke her hip last fall. Thinking of spring and roses and flowers raises my spirits.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! I hope you and your mother are feeling better. Every day that passes brings us closer to spring. :o)
