That Penstemon 'Prarie Twilight' is gorgeous! And it goes so well together with the cornflower :-) No roses or penstemons in flower here in my garden yet, in fact no buds on my penstemons yet! But my paeony looks almost the same stage as yours, funny how some plants have been affected by our dismal spring and some have not. We still have unseasonal cold weather....Ugh!
Thanks! I bought it off the sale table and am glad I did! I only have one in a patch of white penstemon that haven't bloomed yet. I'm convinced peonies operate on their own clocks, regardless of what the weather's doing. I really hope it warms up for you soon. :o)
I just love your flower bed by the fence...it's so full and beautiful! I have Cornflowers and "Prairie Twilight" too and really like them. The Cornflowers spread all over and the "Prairie Twilight" is one of the few Penstemons that do well in my garden. I always enjoy visiting your garden!
Thanks! That bed has been a long time in the making. I've redone it too many times to count and once had to temporarily remove every single plant so I could dig up pink sundrop roots.
Love that Penstemon! I got a new one this year called 'Red Riding Hood' and have been waiting for it to bloom so I can decide where in the garden it should go. Decisions, decisions...
That's so weird! Here's the growing conditions on mine: well drained, rich soil that is a bit drier than my other roses, full sun. The cornflower would do well in your climate. It loves a cold winter and well drained, moist soil.
Hi Tammy, your garden is really looking lush and burgeoning there. If you turn your back for a minute the whole lot is going to explode and burst through the garden fences!
It already has! I have several sections where I've removed the wood from the fence because the plants were pushing against it! Fortunately, my neighbors love it when my garden escapes to their side. :o)
You're right of course, I believe they have even created some roses designed for and named after our Canadian winters. I guess it's because I have tried and tried and something always manages to kill them off. It's really me that finally gave up, but I prefer to blame the roses :)
I love the view down the fence line especially. Gosh that peach rose looks pretty looks pretty up against the fence. Looks like you are going to have lots of peonies too. Three years in my Persian cornflower is finally a good size. Can't wait for it to flower!
Nice! You made me sigh with all the beauty. Hmmmm, I feel like your garden would be a good place to kick off the sandals, grab a tall iced tea, and chat with a friend. Enjoy the sunny weather!
BEAUTIFUL! And those roses...the most stunning color!
ReplyDeleteI am in love with that rose! :o) I just wait for them every spring.
DeleteIsn't Westerland a great rose? I love that color.
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for anything kind of peachy colored and I love how these change from a deep orange to a soft pink-peach. :o)

DeleteBeware of the Persian....they'll steal your heart:) Awesome plants! The Cornflower is one of my favorites:)
ReplyDeleteMe, too! They're really tough, too. If it could just whip up some Persian cuisine, I'd be in heaven. :o)
DeleteJust beautiful....

ReplyDeleteI just Googled your penstemon. Love those ruby red flowers. :o) The hummingbirds should go nuts for it!
DeleteYour garden is beautiful, love the fence bed. Penstemon is a favorite of mine.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I love it, too, but it's hard to find varieties that can handle the humidity/heavy clay of VA. I've lost track of all the ones I've killed. :(
DeleteWhat a beautiful long view of your garden. Love the penstemon. And your Westerland looks very happy!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Westerland is super happy! :o)
DeleteToday it's finally raining, and nice as that is, it's nicer to see flowers on your post.
ReplyDeleteLove all of them.
Jen
Thanks! :o)
DeleteMy first Penstemon (Husker's Red) is getting ready to bloom for the first time! I'm so excited.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing yours :)
Love the foliage on that one! Looking forward to the pix. :o)
DeleteI have 'Westerland'! It's not doing very well for me, though. Love that cornflower and Penstemon.

Delete<3 the roses!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI love your pinks and coral especially the rose.
ReplyDeleteThose are hues I have a hard time resisting. :o) I love how warm they are.
DeleteWowwww..so beautiful !!
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Argentina
:) ♥
The rose and the cornflower looks so pretty. The cornflower looks like those monarda.
ReplyDeleteThanks! The cornflower is especially easy to grow. It's a very tough plant.

DeleteThe rose climbing on your fence is a glorious colour. Since roses hate my garden, I will enjoy yours :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! Why do roses hate your garden? I've heard of roses that are bred for extra cold climates.

DeleteOh you're a bit ahead of us with your blooms (here in the UK) but great to see what lies ahead x

ReplyDeletePretty!
ReplyDeleteTammy, wonderful roses!
ReplyDeleteI see the peonies have the buds now, can't wait to look at the flowers.
Have a nice weekend!
