Two cherry red 'Maraschino' salvia grew in my garden this summer, squished in between larger, more aggressive plants. They barely bloomed and by the time I began weeding out rambunctious seedlings to give them more sun, they resembled one of those strange modern art sculptures that are best appreciated when viewed with your head tilted to the side and one eye closed.
But when trimmed and added to the motley collection of potted perennials on my patio, they began blooming and haven't stopped. I'm thankful for flowers that survive thugish neighbors and are beautiful regardless of how they are viewed.
I'm thankful for the blooming plants right now. There aren't many of them, but they certainly look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAmen. It's interesting to find what's lurking beneath the aggressive plants when you get around to tidying up. For me this year it was some mint in a pot that was surrounded by Flame acanthus and Batface cuphea. It has the sweetest little lavendar blooms hidden beneath and the bees have loved it since I cut the others back.
ReplyDeleteI closed one eye and tilt my head but simply could not see the Salvia you mentioned. :)I figured that is must be tucked in that pile.
ReplyDeleteChallenges are fun, aren't they? I remember you mentioning that you would have no time but seems that it may be possible after all.
Wonderful! I am glad it is providing blooms for you after being rescued! Mine are still going strong despite several almost frost nights. The pollinators are certainly appreciative!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I think we all have situations like that...which reminds me there are some things I need to thin out before it gets too cold.
ReplyDeleteSalvia really can take a beating can't it? I planted some blue ones last year in a container and didn't bother watering in the heat of summer. Thought they had completely died until the weather cooled and up they popped again. Wonderful stuff.
ReplyDeleteI love salvias because they are always reliable. I guess they just wanted a little pampering.
ReplyDeleteHere's what I'm thankful for - for stumbling on your blog via a comment you left om my blog. How did I miss your blog? It is so much fun!
